How it works

The Wikipedia connector indexes articles from a Wikipedia language edition. You pick the categories and pages to index. Each article becomes one document with a link back to Wikipedia. The connector reads public content only. It needs no credential. Permission sync is not available. Document Access can be Everyone in Your Organization or Specific Groups. Specific Groups is a paid feature: the Business and Enterprise tiers on Onyx Cloud, and the Enterprise Edition when self-hosted. The connector is available in all editions: Community Edition, Business, Enterprise, and Onyx Cloud.

Setting up

1

Choose what to index

In the Admin Panel, go to Connectors and select Wikipedia.
  • Language Code: The Wikipedia language edition, for example en for English or de for German.
  • Categories to Index: Category names, without the Category: prefix. Onyx indexes every page in each category.
  • Pages: Individual page titles to index.
  • Recursion Depth: How many levels of subcategories to follow. Enter 0 to index only the listed categories, or -1 to follow all subcategories.
2

Set access and create

Under Connector Settings, choose Document Access and click Create Connector.
A high Recursion Depth on a large category can pull in many thousands of pages. Start small and widen the scope after the first index attempt completes.
